A joyous Glasgow celebration of Diwali – the Festival of Light – featuring music, food, dancing and families coming together, is set to be held at the Hindu Temple, 1 La Belle Place G3 7LH in Glasgow’s West End on Sunday 3 November from 11.30 to 3.30.

Organised by Scottish Bhartiya Samaj, (SBS) a voluntary organisation formed by a passionate group of individuals dedicated to preserving and celebrating the vibrant spirit of India in Glasgow, SBS brings together the colours of Indian festivals, cherished traditions, and the rich flavours of its cuisine, all with the aim of fostering community harmony in their “home away from home”.

One of the community members Dr Rashmi Mantri, said: “As the festive season approaches, SBS has been gearing up to celebrate the Festival of Lights – Diwali – with unmatched enthusiasm and camaraderie.”

“This year, the biggest cultural carnival awaits, inviting everyone to experience the magic of Diwali through lively Drama on Ramayana, heartfelt rituals, and, of course, a feast that promises to be unforgettable,” said Mr Sudhir, a Diwali volunteer.

Mr. Sachin Mittal, another volunteer said “In addition, a celebrated chef will lead the culinary journey, offering free food with Rajasthani cuisine as the star attraction, tempting guests with its authentic spices and flavours.”

For centuries, Diwali has been a time for families to come together, light diyas, and fill their homes with warmth, love, and hope. It marks the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, symbolising the victory of righteousness.

For Indians, proud of their homeland but living away from home, especially in a city like Glasgow, Diwali is more than a festival. It is a powerful reminder of their roots, a connection to the traditions they hold dear, and a chance to bring a slice of India into their lives.

The agenda for the day:

  • 11:30 am: The programme begins with a sweet bhajan along with a keyboard rendered by a little champ.
  • 11.45 to 12.20 pm Hare Rama Hare Krishna chanting: courtesy team ISKCON
  • 12.20pm – 12.50pm Ramayan Skit Ramayan by children
  • 12:30 – Mahaprasad servings begin

Mr, Andrew Lal, a Temple Committee member said: “Our generous supporters and sponsors, Manish, Deekay, Amit, along with Dr Rashmi Mantri and Manoj Maheswari, warmly welcome everyone to join us in celebrating this special event.

“Our other esteemed supporters are Sudhir ji, Rohit Khattar, Dhruv Maheshwari, Kshitij Mathur, Saurav Singal, Punita Yadav, Sahdev Kamboj, Shrish Saxena, Varun Tomar, Aakash, Praveen, Chintan Shah, Jignesh Chauhan, Purvii, Tushar Anand, Ravi Grandhi and Sri Grandhi.

“SBS would like to express huge gratitude towards Mr Andrew Lal and Glasgow Hindu Mandir committee for this massive opportunity.

“Let’s unite, celebrate, and banish all darkness together. Looking forward to seeing you on the 3rd of November!”
