Beerjacket is the musical title of Scottish singer/songwriter, Peter Kelly.

Special 20th Anniversary show – Beerjacket in collaboration with Cairn String Quartet

For the past twenty years, Kelly has been crafting emotionally impactful songs built on his unusual acoustic fingerpicking style and infectious and impassioned melodies. You may well have seen Beerjacket playing with favourite bands and musicians over the years as the list of acts he has shared the stage with is almost endless: The National, St Vincent, Feist, Kristin Hersh, Tom Vek, Mogwai, Joan As Police Woman, Arab Strap, Rilo Kiley, and Frightened Rabbit, to name a few…

This special 20th Anniversary show at Cottiers Theatre will see Beerjacket collaborate with Cairn String Quartet to launch the eponymous album, Beerjacket, which will be released on 15th November, 2024 featuring brand new studio recordings of twelve songs from the early years. Having previously worked with Cairn String Quartet (the live string section for Biffy Clyro) on a sold-out Celtic Connections show in January 2020, Is This Music? said of the collaboration that ““Aided by the Cairn String Quartet on one side and Julia Doogan on backing vocals on the other side, everything just sounded so lush… the string quartet makes a huge difference. It takes them into another dimension and gives a polish and sheen that wasn’t there before.”

Beerjacket and Cairn String Quartet will present a set of material spanning two decades of songs from the new retrospective record, as well as fan favourites from albums such as The White Feather Trail, Darling Darkness and Silver Cords – the unique album/short story book that led to tour dates with Kristin Hersh, a BBC Quay Sessions TV performance and sold out appearances at prestigious literary events such as Aye Write and Edinburgh International Book Festival.

“No matter how much music you listen to, you rarely stumble across a musical approach that does not wear its influences on its sleeve. These songs speak in their own language.” – Kristin Hersh, Throwing Muses

“The new Elliott Smith.” – Matt Berninger, The National
