When the Road Bends – Tales of a Gypsy Caravan
Dir. Jasmine Dellal 110 mins UK US & India
This celebratory musical documentary follows five Romani bands from four countries uniting for the “Gypsy Caravan” – a six week tour around the USA. As well as capturing riveting and beautiful stage performances, the film takes us behind the scenes, into the tour bus and back to the home places of the musicians and dancers. In surprisingly intimate footage shot in Macedonia, Romania, India and Spain we learn more of the individual, family and community lives of people whose culture crosses national boundaries. As they tour together they learn from each other sharing their joys and difficulties, speaking of experiences of prejudice and discovering more about the richness of their shared heritage. Definitely a fists up for Roma pride!

The film will be subtitled for deaf/hard of hearing audience members and the introductory talk BSL interpreted.
