Broken Chanter at Celtic Connections

29 January, 2025 at 7.20 p.m.
Cottiers, 93-95 Hyndland St, Glasgow G11 5PU
With support from Raveloe
Broken Chanter is the stage name of David MacGregor and 2024 was a pretty good year for him – his third album Chorus Of Doubt (…shows a band on top of their game…at its best it’s agit-pop with heart – Uncut Magazine) was released on legendary Scottish label Chemikal Underground in April, and went on to feature on the Longlist of 20 for the Scottish Album of the Year Award. Prior to this incendiary new gem of an LP, MacGregor has released two critically acclaimed albums as Broken Chanter – 2019’s eponymous debut (A stunning, stately debut – The Skinny); and 2021’s award-winning Catastrophe Hits (Muscular, fast-moving indie-pop –The Scotsman).
MacGregor also spent 2007-2017 as the principal songwriter of Scottish Alt-Pop darlings Kid Canaveral. Their debut LP Shouting at Wildlife was described by The Herald as “a Scottish pop classic that should be mandatory in every record collection in the country”, and saw the band perform across a large chunk of the western hemisphere, with similarly well-received follow-up Now That You Are a Dancer being Longlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award in 2014.
Raveloe, the solo project of Glasgow-based singer-songwriter Kim Grant, draws inspiration from George Eliot’s Silas Marner. Grant, a weaver of words and songs, crafts intimate folk music that explores the human experience. Her atmospheric sound and introspective lyrics have garnered comparisons to acclaimed artists like PJ Harvey and Adrianne Lenker.
Tickets on the door will be £19.00 incl booking fee.
