7pm Friday 15th March 2024
Contemporary writers in Scotland on names, language and identity
CCA, 350 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow G2 3JD
Please join the co-editors Rebecca Sharp, Samina Chaudhry and Marcas Mac an Tuairneir, along with writers Carrie Marshall, Xinyi Jiang, Ngan Nguyen and Christie Williamson, for the Glasgow launch of this new anthology exploring name, language and identity.
HOW DO WE TALK ABOUT KNIVES (Matecznik Press) is an anthology of new work exploring writers’ own names – the experiences and stories that come with a name; instances of misnaming, name changing and name choosing.
Themes emerge of linguistic and cultural heritage, attachment and estrangement, freedom and restriction, displacement and belonging, celebration and loss, recovery and resurrection, individual and shared experience.
Within the anthology, literary and community languages of Scotland intersect with the lived experiences of women, trans and non-binary people, writers in exile, Scots and New Scots living in the Highlands and Islands, Lowlands and Scottish urban centres.
The anthology was launched in Nov 2023 at the National Library of Scotland, and the SWC is thrilled to support the Glasgow launch of this exciting anthology
