Losing Ground, Sunday 17 July, 2016, GFT
One of the first fiction features by an African-American woman
Sun 17 July (19.10)
Running time: 1h26m
Three decades after its release and 25 years after director Kathleen Collins’ death, thanks to a new digital restoration, Losing Ground is in cinemas for the very first time . One of the very first fictional features by an African-American woman, the film takes a wryly humorous look at the relationship of a philosophy professor (Seret Scott) and her philandering painter husband (Bill Gunn). Its focus on a black female character, who is both intellectually and sexually empowered, was groundbreaking at the time. The film is still considered to be a feminist masterwork.
This one-off screening will be introduced by Digital Desperados.
