Scottish Independence ...

Actually, I think that's what the media say but I don't really see or hear any evidence of that, hereabouts....

Smell the fear

Christians cannot vote for an independent Scotland in good conscience because it would lead to a secular state, a former Free Church of Scotland Moderator has warned.

In a paper to the Free Church General Assembly about the forthcoming referendum, Rev John Ross said a successful ‘Yes’ vote would result in Christianity “being deprived of state recognition as Scotland’s national religion” for the first time since the Reformation.

Rev Ross said the Scottish Government’s White Paper on independence was “dishonest” in claiming that separation would result in no change to the legal status of any religion or of the country’s churches.

A co-ordinator for Better Together has resigned and joined Labour for Independence.

The tide has turned and the water is lapping about the establishment's ankles

See Cameron is coming to Scotland to make contact with the ordinary people and draw on John Smith's views that Scotland can be part of something bigger. Interesting reading the comments in The Herald on this topic. Including the reminder of Smith's take on the Conservatives:

"The values that propel the Labour Party’s international ambition - our determined commitment to build a better world - are needed today as never before. And these same values are needed as never before in Britain, too. Because there can be no doubt that this country has been damaged and diminished by fourteen years of Conservative rule: years in which the extraordinary bounty of North Sea Oil offered us an unprecedented opportunity. We had the opportunity to rebuild, to re-equip and to restore the strength and vitality of a country that once was famed as the workshop of the world. But instead of seizing that opportunity, it has been thrown away. These have been fourteen years of waste, years of neglect, years of decline. Fourteen years of casino economics - a speculators’ paradise - have plunged British industry into two record-breaking recessions with an inflationary boom in between" - Leader's speech, Brighton 1993

I think Smith's ideas on building a better world are rather different from how Cameron likes to go about business.

Wonder how the promise of extra powers for the Scottish Parliament will influence the YES/NO vote?

"Barack,is there any chance you could do me a favour?Strictly off the record, naturally!"

"Of course David,anything"

"Is there any chance you could come out in favour of Britain" staying together" at your next press conference at the G8?You know, just kind of spontaneously?

"No problem my friend"

"Great, and you know if there's anything at all I can do..any wars you need a hand with.Anything.Just say."

"And I mean that in a Blairsy kinda way."
