Scott Currie and Gordon Quirk, qualified Dispensing Opticians with over 20 years experience in eye care, have their practice on Byres Road in the heart of the West End.
Having for many years worked for one of the largest independent opticians in central Scotland, they have very clear ideas on what they want to achieve. This includes offering the highest level of care and personal attention with friendly professional advice.
"As independent opticians we have the flexibility to meet even the most demanding of needs. Also Claire McCafferty, Optometrist, has all the latest high-tech equipment at her disposal, ensuring that your eye examination is as comprehensive as possible."

Claire points out that having all the latest equipment, including a new Retinal Imaging Camera to photograph the inside of the eye, means that:"we can detect and monitor eye conditions so much more accurately than ever before".
Eye care
At Currie and Quirk's the view is that: "Having an eye test shouldn't be just about selecting new glasses or contact lenses" and Gordon Quirk goes on to point out that:
Many different and potentially serious conditions can be detected through regular eye examinations ... everyone should make a point of having their eyes tested regularly.
New regulations from the Scottish Executive mean that every resident in Scotland, including students here to study, will be able to have an eye examination paid for by the NHS from 1st April, 2006. . "Hopefully, this will encourage those who do not normally need glasses, to have an eye examination to ensure that their eyes are healthy".
Children
Currie and Quirk offer an excellent service for children with free frames available plus late night opening so that you can arrange an appointment outwith school hours. They highlight the importance of eyetests for children - it is recommended that children under 16 years of age should have their eyes tested at least every 12 months and very young children should always have their eyes tested before they start primary school. In this way, any slight abnormality can be detected and treated and may prevent the need to wear glasses or contact lenses in later life.
Eye Care for Older People
Eye care is also important for the older age group.
As we get older, we begin to develop problems with our eyes which may need to be closely monitored. For this reason, everyone over the age of 60 years may have further tests carried out during the eye examination and those over 70 years should be seen every 12 months, rather than every 2 years, as a preventative measure.
That West End Style
Whilst, Currie and Quirk place considerable emphasis on eye care, they are also very concerned with style and Scott, Gordon and Claire have chosen one of the most inspiring ranges of frames from all around the world; offering a tantalising array of colours and shapes attractive to the ever style conscious Glaswegian.
All of our frames are individually chosen by us to reflect the style and tastes of our patients, who are not afraid to set a trend rather than follow one.
That is why each frame is hand selected and includes up to the minute designs by Prada, Gucci, Roberto Cavalli, Giorgio Armani, Marc Jacobs and Bvlgari, to name but a few of the well known brands. In addition, we have sourced interesting new ranges from around the world including: the Pro-Design range from Denmark and Booth & Bruce of England , who have introduced modern shapes and brighter colours to reflect changing opinions of what glasses should look like.
The Optician continues to offer new exciting ranges glasses of every style and colour arriving every other day. This includes fabulous new ranges in stock for 2006 from Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana.
Also in stock they have a good range of stylish modern designs, which are less expensive than branded names - "suitable for students who want a certain style but may be living on a tight budget". Very popular with this group is the new Oscar + Fitch range, which comes in a huge range of colours and styles at very competitive prices.
Currie and Quirk also stock the latest models from the major sunglass designers and have a new 2006 range arriving from Italy in Spring. This includes Gucci and Giorgio Armani as well as the incredible Maui Jim range - all the way from Hawaii.
They are the only opticians in the West End who stock the fabulous new range of frames and sunglasses from Chanel, who have reintroduced some traditional classic Chanel styles along with modern desings and colours in keeping with the latest 'vintage' trends. In addition, prescription sunglasses are available from Nautica, Calvin Klein and Michael Kors starting at £99 complete with lenses.
The extensive range ensures that you will find something to suit your budget and your style.

Scott Currie believes that: "because we all live locally and know the area and the people who live in the West End really well, we have been able to respond to requests for something 'different' and reflect the independence that keeps the West End that little bit special".
At Currie and Quirk the focus is on offering a first class service which is special.
"We are happy to order in specific "one-off" styles or source certain colours that patients want to try and cannot find elsewhere. - We want to offer a type of service as unique as the West End itself"
