Ziggy Stardust: The Global Premiere at GFT
6 July, 2023, 7 p.m.
Fifty years to the day since David Bowie’s last performance as his famous alter-ego, Ziggy Stardust returns to Eventim Apollo (formerly the Odeon) for one night only.
Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars: The Motion Picture is digitally restored (now in 4K and with 5.1 sound) with never-before-seen footage. The film will be unveiled at a red carpet global premiere to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of Ziggy. It will be preceded by an exclusive on-stage conversation with Bowie collaborators and contemporary musicians who will address the original show’s legacy and Ziggy’s pan-generational resonance.
The worldwide premiere will allow fans to finally see the complete set that was played on that fateful night for the first time and features the performance of legendary guitarist Jeff Beck whose scenes were famously cut from the original version of the film.
Renowned filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker (Monterey Pop, Bob Dylan Don’t Look Back, Depeche Mode 101) captured the momentous event back in 1973 – filming Bowie and The Spiders From Mars on stage and backstage. Ringo Starr even dropped in for a chat.
Relive the iconic moment which changed pop culture forever.
Please note: This is a recorded Encore screening, containing all the elements of the live screening on 3 July.
