WestFest – The Big Weekend

WestFest announces The Big Weekend- a two day community festival on Kelvin Way this September
Following on from this year’s successful and well attended ‘Summer in the West End’ events programme, new non profit production company WestFest has announced plans for a brand new community event, The Big Weekend which will take place on 3rd and 4th September, 2022.
The Big Weekend will take place at the Kelvingrove Bandstand and along Kelvin Way and will comprise a programme of free, accessible community and family focused events and activities both in the bandstand itself and along Kelvin Way.
Programme
Saturday 3rd September
11am-5pm The Big Saturday Gala-
Big gala day featuring a variety of entertainment on the Kelvingrove Bandstand from live music to samba bands, choirs, circus performers and more. As well as the programme at the bandstand, the event will extend along Kelvin Way with a street market, food & drink vendors, inflatables, street theatre, outdoor play and pop up workshops
7.30pm Drag @The Bandstand (Ticketed)
A fabulous evening of drag, cabaret and comedy at Kelvingrove Bandstand.
Hosted by the legendary Cheri Treiffel and featuring the best the Glasgow drag scene has to offer such as Garry King, Rujazzle and more
Sunday 4th September
11am-2pm ‘Voice@the Bandstand
A celebration of choral singing with some of the biggest choirs from across Scotland
2.30-4pm The Big Outdoor Ceilidh on Kelvin Way
A reprisal of the hugely popular Kelvingrove Outdoor ceilidh by Glasgow Folk Music Workshop
4.30pm Brass Band @ The Bandstand
The Big Weekend is supported by Glasgow City Council’s Area Partnerships with grant support coming from Hillhead, Partick East/Kelvindale, Anderston/City/Yorkhill, Victoria Park and Maryhill funds.
