The Great Gatsby plus Craig Armstrong Q & A
Wednesday 25 September, 2024
In a career spanning over four decades, Glasgow-born composer Craig Armstrong OBE has become synonymous with the film soundtrack, composing across a wide range of cinema, from blockbusters to low-budget indie hits. Stirring and deeply emotive, his music is immediately recognisable. GFT is delighted to welcome Armstrong for a Q&A on his work in film after a screening of The Great Gatsby, one of his three unforgettable collaborations with director Baz Luhrmann.
Luhrmann’s star-studded adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Long Island-set novel won Oscars for its costumes and production design, and is an absolute feast for the senses. Midwesterner Nick Carraway is lured into the lavish world of his mysterious neighbour, Jay Gatsby, and his world of parties and glamour. Soon enough, however, Carraway will see through the cracks of Gatsby’s nouveau riche existence, where obsession, madness, and tragedy await.
This screening will be the culmination of a CineMasters: Craig Armstrong season through September at GFT, in partnership with Sonica, with further titles and dates announced in August.
