Bill Bryden’s The Big Picnic was originally written and performed in Govan in 1994, and this later performance (directed for television by Derek Bailey with Sebastian Graham-Jones) was broadcast on the BBC in 1996. A spectacular theatre drama recounting the experiences of young Glaswegian men in the First World War, we see both staged depictions of the home front and the battlefield abroad. Twenty years on from its original staging, this performance still packs the same emotional punch today.
We’re pleased to announce that director Bill Bryden, as well as members of the cast and crew, will introduce the film, followed by a Q&A with Bryden chaired by producer of Hopscotch Films John Archer.
