Super Nature at GFT

Super Nature celebrates our universal connection to nature, with an intimate gaze, creating a visceral, poetic, personal meditation on the natural world. A global co-creation project, Ed Sayer’s debut feature saw him collaborating with 40 people on 80 different antique Super 8 cameras across land, in the air, and underwater. They would all decide together the stories of nature close to them and their hearts that they would tell, all with as little travel as possible.
Filmed exclusively on the original home movie format, Super 8, Super Nature proposes a new way of seeing. A celebration of all we have and reflecting on all we have to lose, audiences are invited on a journey across 25 different countries, with people embracing both abundance and loss, to feel a sense of togetherness with our fellow dwellers on earth, human and non-human.
Captured by a combination of professional filmmakers and local enthusiasts alike, scored with diverse music and accompanied with 11 different languages, Super Nature sees a growing network of makers take to this antique format, to share images, thoughts and philosophies in a gentle, beguiling way. The result is a fresh perspective on the most pressing subject of our times.
‘A really really remarkable film capturing the wonders of the world on Super 8. Uplifting… life-affirming… organic… It feels like it’s got a physical soul to it. I want people to see it in cinemas, it is a theatrical experience’ – Mark Kermode, Kermode on Film Podcast
