Creative Resilience: Scene but not Heard champions the unconventional nature of urban art

Scotland’s leading multi-disciplinary arts venue SWG3 has announced the latest exhibition to be hosted in their Yard Life Gallery urban arts space. Launching on 11th November, Creative Resilience: Scene but not Heard celebrates the creativity of rebelliousness and experimentation connected with Urban Art, Street Art, Graffiti and Urban Intervention Art. 

Bringing together ideas and work from a 26 strong group of all-womxn artists, the exhibition champions the daring, offering the audience a glimpse into the rebellious  nature of a supportive community of artists that are often marginalised and underrated within the scene. 

At the heart of this exhibition, its curatorial methodology is “rule-breaking and resilience”. The approach includes  various perspectives: content, context, interaction, presentation, installation, medium and format. In addition,  the gallery worked collaboratively with the artists involved, creating, curating and starting conversations about their community of womxn who champion the iconoclastic nature of Urban Art.  By connecting these artists,Creative Resilience: Scene but not Heard will amplify their voices through unusual collaborations and an unconventional use of materials.

With a catalogue spanning the UK, each of the artists involved in the forthcoming show is highly skilled in their chosen medium. Work from Belfast’s experimental, multi-dimensional illustrator and street artist Zippy will be showcased alongside the social observations featured in Iranian-born, London-based artist, activist and educator Aida Wilde, as well as pieces from some of Scotland’s own leading names like KMG and Joanne Curtis Brown.

Marianne Vosloo, Arts Programmer for SWG3, said: “The idea for this exhibition flourished when myself and Michaela McManus, our Yardworks Project Assistant, identified a group of womxn artists who show a rebellious nature in their approach to designing and making. We invited them to exhibit work which pushes their creative boundaries, in a group show. ”
