Scorsese of the Month: Cape Fear at GFT
Monday 21 August, 2023 7.45pm
GFT’s Scorsese of the Month screenings continue in August with Cape Fear, selected and introduced by programmer Charlotte Ashcroft.
Robert De Niro stars in one of his most menacing roles as Max Cady — a tattooed, cigar-smoking, Bible-quoting, psychotic rapist. Nick Noltestars as Sam Bowden, a small-town corporate attorney. What do they have in common? Fourteen years ago, Sam was a public defender assigned to Max Cady’s rape trial, and he made a serious error: he hid a document from his illiterate client that could have gotten him acquitted. Now, the cagey Cady has been released, and he intends to teach Sam Bowden and his family a thing or two about loss.
Next month the season will continue at GFT with another of Scorsese and De Niro‘s most loved features: The King of Comedy — selected and introduced by author Heather Parry, on Monday 18 September.
