Papillon
GFT
A classic drama of endurance and camaraderie.
Tuesday 16 February, 2016 (17.45)
Running time: 2h31m
Based on the best-selling autobiography by the French convict Henri Charrière, Papillon was adapted by Dalton Trumbo into a classic drama of endurance and camaraderie. Steve McQueen plays Charrière (whose nickname ‘Papillon’ came from a butterfly tattoo on his chest) who is sentenced to life imprisonment after being falsely accused of murder. Whilst in custody he meets Louis Dega (Dustin Hoffman), a forger and embezzler with whom Charrière forms a bond. Although the two men appear to have nothing in common, they share a desire for freedom and a will to live.
