Notes On Blindness GFT until 7 July, 2016

A thought-provoking documentary exploring the loss of sight.
Friday 1 – Thursday 7 July, 2016
Running time: 1h26m
Notes on Blindness is a thought-provoking documentary exploring the loss of sight. As theologian and writer John Hull began to lose his sight, he made a series of audio recordings of his experience. Over three years John recorded more than 16 hours of material, providing a unique insight into the interior world of blindness. Melding classic documentary elements with cinematic re-enactments, Notes on Blindness proves a poetic and intimate story of loss, rebirth and transformation.
All shows of Notes on Blindness will be Audio Described – AD headphones are available to collect from Box Office when you pick up your tickets prior to the film screening.

On Friday 1 July we will also be showing Notes on Blindness: Into Darkness, a Virtual Reality presentation based on John’s sensory and psychological experience.
Notes on Blindness: Into Darkness is an innovative Virtual Reality (VR) project which allows users to access John’s world of blindness in an exploratory, user-led experience. The VR piece draws upon John’s sensory meditations of blindness, in particular the awakening of his appreciation of ‘acoustic space’. Guided by narration from his original audio diaries, the experience uses binaural sound tethered to real-time 3D visualisation, to map environments built up through multi-layered patterns of sound.
Notes on Blindness: Into Darkness will be free for anyone to drop in and experience, subject to available spaces, in two locations on Friday 1 July at these times:
13.30-15.30 – Project Cafe, Renfrew Street (just round the corner from GFT)
17.30-18.30 – GFT Screen 3
For the UK release, Notes on Blindness are partnering with MovieReading to release a free smartphone app that allows your mobile device to display subtitles with the simple push of a button. The app offers a choice of soundtracks with an audio description file and allows you to download a captioned file for the film.
