As is tradition Britannica Panopticon will be screening a silent horror movie for halloween with live musical accompaniment and sound effects! This year showing the expressionist classic ‘The Man Who Laughs’.
Gwynplaine is the son of a nobleman who angered King James II. With his face surgically disfigured into a permanent grin as punishment for his father’s crimes, Gwynplaine makes his living as a freakshow performer. That is, until the fateful day he catches the eye of James II’s successor, Queen Anne.
