In Conversation with Rupert Thomson and Graeme Macrae Burnet
Waterstones Sauchiehall Street Glasgow
Thursday , 28 February, 2019

Rupert Thomson is one of the UK’s most critically lauded writers. Author of eleven novels, his latest ‘Never Anyone But You’ tells the story of the gender-defying French artists Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore from their adolescence in Nantes, through their years among the surrealists of Paris, to their two-woman war of attrition against the Nazi occupation of Jersey. A book of the year in both The Guardian and The Observer, Sarah Waters called it, “A novel of tremendous beauty … a wonderful achievement.” As if that were not enough, Rupert can count Philip Pullman and David Bowie among his many fans.

Graeme Macrae Burnet is the author of the Man Booker shortlisted ‘His Bloody Project’, but his two crime novels ‘The Disappearance of Adèle Bedeau’ and ‘The Accident on the A35’ are set in the provincial French town of Saint-Louis. The latter was selected as a book of the year in The Observer and the Wall Street Journal. The Irish Times called it, “subtly observed, psychologically acute and extremely droll.”
Taking their mutual French connection as a starting point, this will be a free-flowing conversation between two highly-acclaimed and engaging novelists.
