How many women film directors can you name? Agnes Varda? Jane Campion? Ida Lupino? Mira Nair? May Miles Thomas? The list is endless but how many of them have received the attention they truly deserve?

Mark Cousins landmark 14 hour documentary ( screening  in five programmes) is nothing less than a radical realignment of conventional film history. Mark uses over 700 clips from 183 female directors whose work spans the globe.

The aim is to guide us through the themes and techniques of cinema, using only women filmmakers as examples. There are discoveries and revelations that will have you jotting down names and hunting down a whole new world of films. Executive producer Tilda Swinton along with Sharmila Tagore, Jane Fonda, Adjoa Andoh, Thandie Newton, Kerry Fox and Debra Winger provide the narration for this extraordinary undertaking which is supported by a chance to see some rare delights back on the big screen.
