Essential Bushcraft Skills for Outdoor Learning Practitioners
January 21st and 28th, 2023, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The Children’s Wood will be offering two dates of training courses alongside Leigh’s Forest School. You have the opportunity to sign up for one or both training day courses in ‘Essential Bushcraft Skills for Outdoor Learning Practitioners’.
These training days will take place in the Children’s Wood and Meadow, (G20 8PR) on Saturday 21st January and Saturday 28th January from 10am-3pm.
We will be covering the following areas on each day, please note different outdoor activities will be offered on each day, they will not be repeated.
Training Day 1, Saturday 21st Jan 2023, 10am-3pm:
– Ropes and knots; shelters, tarps, hammocks, with full hands-on experience of knots, ridge lines, putting up tarps and hammocks safely)
– Hands-on experience of outdoor games and workshops (a variety of outdoor activities)
– Fire (risk assessment; preparation, safety rules and how to light, run and cook on a fire with a group/ class of children)
– Kit will be supplied. Hot drinks and easy fire side snacks will also be part of the course.
Training Day 2, Saturday 28th Jan 2023, 10am-3pm
– Tools (safe practice: working with live blades including bow saws, peelers, knife wood whittling).
– Hands on experience of more outdoor games and workshops (different to day 1)
– fire (risk assessment; preparation, safety rules and how to light, run and cook on a fire with a group/ class of children)
– Kit will be supplied. Hot drinks and easy fire side snacks will also be part of the course.
* Please note that different outdoor games and activities will be offered on each of the separate training days, they will not be repeated, should you wish to sign up for both days.
We have organised these days so that they can be booked as a block of two or separately. Both days will have a focus on inclusion, ‘leave no trace’ and sustainability.
The cost for our training days are: £80 for one day per person or £150 for both days.
On completion of each training day you will receive a certificate of attendance and participation, outlining the skills that you have learned and achieved.
