Christmes Poem by Ishbel McVicar
Ishbel is in her late 80s, has lived in Dumbarton most of her life – has had several sojourns abroad – and moved to Alexandria on retirement. She writes personal memoires as well as poetry about nature and ‘beliefs’
Christmas Stars
Star of wonder and hope
leading us to the Christ child
Desert stars
illuminating mosques and minaret
where the faithful are called daily
to pray to Allah
The Southern Cross
illuminating the outback
The miracle of sound waves
unites us
Stars of the firmament
like diamonds
hung in a heavenly galaxy
unite us all
in love
for all Mankind
May the spectres
of terrorism, famine and wars
disappear like shooting stars
Ishbel McVicar
