Fiona Alderman blogging from The Salignac Foundation France.

fiona alderman.jpg
I want to introduce myself , Fiona Alderman, living in France for the last 14 years and maybe some of you also remember my partner Barry Paton who wrote such wonderful diaries of rural France on the website for many years.

Well we are still here. I wanted to revisit the time here in my way and to go back a bit .” Le temps de vivre” i.e. the time to live. A time to take stock, to see where we are and what we have accomplished equally so .
We run The Salignac Foundation which runs short courses in film and in contemporary dance and we have welcomed people from all over the world.
It has been an amazing experience , both meeting such different “artists” and also it has been an enriching experience working on so many levels. One year there was an ex coach for the Portuguese women’s Olympic athletes , two American film students, a Brazilian university teacher etc. etc . Great stuff!

Fiona Alderman: More of Fifi’s story from Rural France

Mushrooms in the cellar We take them for granted our lovely “champignons de Paris” and I hadn’t realised where they had really come from? They are now in fact cultivated in underground caves in the Loire region of France and have become both a culinary delight as well as a tourist attraction. However, they’ve been […]

Fiona Alderman, blogging from Rural France, February, 2015

Thinking back I wonder where the last 15 years have gone – on a hot weekend in February we were sitting out enjoying a wine or two in celebration of buying this house in Salignac. It was unusually warm and Barry got sunburned on the back of his head! This year it has been freezing […]

Fiona Alderman: Sad News From France

Plunged into silence I am sure very few people outside of France would have known about the satirical newspaper”Charlie Hebdo”. I myself knew about it but had never bought it. By now, of course, everyone around the world knows. The whole of France has been shocked by the terrible events. I listened on the radio […]

Fiona Alderman’s blog. One September in Rural France

“Le Peste seller” I did predict it on this very page. The ex First lady of France, Valerie Trierweiler, has written a best seller of a book, denouncing her partner Francois Hollande. She calls it “Merci pour ce moment” a slightly sarcastic title. It was advertised as” le peste seller” as she is being taken […]

A New Year’s Letter from France, Fiona Alderman

Coincidences in Glasgow  We live in a relatively small village in rural France and the chances of reading “ English of Today” printed in 1964 in Glasgow are pretty limited I would have thought ? However I was wrong. My French neighbour, Renée , handed in some little books for me as she knew I […]
