Brian Whittingham Memorial Fundraiser
9 August, 1950 – 19 January, 2022
Brian Whittingham, the first Tannahill Makar, accomplished poet, writer, playwright and creative writing tutor started his working life as a steelworker before becoming a successful writer.
He was one of life’s “Good Guys”
His morals, values and integrity were reflected in his love of the world and all of its’ inhabitants.
A devoted father, his proudest achievements, were his son, Craig and daughter Debbie, who Brian described as “ Decent Citizens”, but that’s what happens when you have a Dad like Brian.
Brian was a humble man who knew what was important to him, and it didn’t involve any commercial consumerism.
He was an adventurous photographer and prolific writer, with poetry being his main passion in his creative armoury.
He touched the lives of many, in a positive way and still had so much to share.
The intention in fundraising is to establish a memorial, details of which have still to be confirmed, and ask for support from friends, family and acquaintances by making a donation..
Any decisions will be based on honouring Brian’s memory in a way that will benefit others.
People have already been so generous that Brian’s family are also hoping to plan use funds towards a bursary to help aspiring writers to attend events that they otherwise could not, so anything additional would go towards this cause.
