One of our new poets form last year returns with an excellent new anthology of black British voices.

In this blistering anthology, poet, editor and DJ Kayo Chingonyi (author of A Blood Condition, SHORTLISTED FOR THE COSTA POETRY AWARD) brings together a selection of exceptional Black British poets. This is his dream mixtape featuring a cross-generational span of well-known and new poets extending and inhabiting the spirits of the ancestors. Following in the tread of Lemn Sissay’s seminal collection The Fire People, More Fiya aims to lodge in the mind of its readers for a lifetime, radiating to touch the lives of many.

Dean Atta was named as one of the most influential LGBT people in the UK by the Independent on Sunday. His debut poetry collection, I Am Nobody’s Nigger, was shortlisted for the Polari First Book Prize. His young-adult novel in verse, The Black Flamingo, won the 2020 Stonewall Book Award, and was shortlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal, the YA Book Prize and the Jhalak Prize.

Janette Ayachi is based in Edinburgh, born in London, with Scottish & Algerian heritage. She’s a regular on BBC Scotland arts programmes & has published work in a broad range of anthologies including from presses such as Seren, Jessica Kingsley & Polygon. Her debut poetry book Hand Over Mouth Music (Pavilion) won the Saltire Poetry Book of the Year Literary Award 2019.

Kayo Chingonyi is the author of Kumukanda, which won the Dylan Thomas Prize and a Somerset Maugham Award and was shortlisted for the Costa Poetry Award, the Seamus Heaney Centre First Poetry Collection Prize, the Ted Hughes Award for New Work in Poetry, the Roehampton Poetry Prize and the Jhalak Prize, and A Bloody Condition which was shortlisted for the Costa Poetry Award, the Forward Prize for Best Collection and the T.S. Eliot Prize.
