The session will be chaired by Simon Barrow who is the Director of Ekklesia, the beliefs, politics and ethics think-tank.
Discussing the future of Scotland as a democracy, nation and society.
Dr Gerry Hassan is a writer, commentator and academic on Scottish and UK politics and society. He has written and edited over two dozen books on Scotland, the UK, and the future of society, politics and ideas including Scotland the Brave? and Caledonian Dreaming: The Quest for a Different Scotland.
As the battle of words over the future of Scotland as a democracy, nation and society continues, A Better Nation: The Challenge of Scottish Independence aims to go beyond the superficial divisions and noise and to address the substance. Drawing on a range of original thinkers from a wide range of backgrounds, it tackles key issues about money, culture, equality, energy, borders, jobs, Europe and other ‘big questions’ head on.

Joyce McMillan is a freelance writer and broadcaster based in Edinburgh, and a critic and columnist for The Scotsman. She was Honorary President of Scottish Environment Link from 2015 to 2019 and published thirty years of her cultural reviews in Theatre in Scotland: A Field of Dreams (2016).
Professor Tanja Bueltmann holds a Chair in International History at the University of Strathclyde. She specialises in migration and diaspora history and her main research interest is in immigrant community life alongside the identity of Europeans in the UK.
