ARLington Meets ARTchitecture Exhibition.

The Arlington Baths Club is hosting an exhibition of quirky, 3D effect, kaleidoscopic collages by Glasgow artist and club member Marion Gardyne. The exhibition focusses on bespoke work featuring the architecture of the Category A Listed Victorian building, home to the oldest baths club in Europe.

The opening event, serving Prosecco and nibbles, is on Friday 1st December from 5.30 – 8.30 pm.

The show is open every weekday afternoon from 2pm -5pm until 17th December. (Check the Arlington website for weekend times).

A selection of original artwork, prints and cards will be on sale. Proceeds from sales will go to the baths restoration fund. Entry is free. Members and visitors are all welcome.

Marion Gardyne Visual Artist

Marion Gardyne

Visual Artist.

Marion has lived and worked in Glasgow most of her life. She attended Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee graduating with a degree in Textile Design. She later gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Primary Education from Jordanhill.

A full time teacher until recently, she worked for several years as a children’s tutor at Glasgow School of Art and has written and illustrated art educational packs for Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Museums.

A two year secondment to the Education Department as Art and Design Specialist, Marion visited primary schools working with children and teachers delivering art lessons and has also organised, managed and led continuing professional development sessions.

She continues to deliver CPD to teachers for Glasgow Life and Glasgow Museum Education Department and has recently tutored at GoMA and Kelvingrove. She has also presented practical workshops for the Luminate Festival at the Gallery of Modern Art.

She is Vice President of Glasgow Southern Art Club and an selected artist member of The Glasgow Society of Women Artists.

Accepting an invitation from the Glasgow Institute of Architects, she has participated in judging for the Glasgow Institute of Architects annual Design Awards in the Leisure/Arts building category.

Marion has exhibited in various locations in 2017 including solo at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, the Cass Art Glasgow Gallery and with groups at The Stirling Smith Gallery and The Lillie Gallery. She was asked to exhibit as a guest artist in the “Lines of Thought “exhibition at The Lighthouse, to celebrate and mark the bicentenary of the birth of Glasgow architect Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson.

Her work is a part of several private collections including Glasgow and other Scottish locations, The Lake District, London and Australia.

Marion creates art inspired by the architectural design of the city’s magnificent buildings. Using photographs taken with her ‘sketchbook’ camera of iconic Glasgow buildings, art and architecture merge in her work and this has resulted in a quirky, kaleidoscopic, 3D effect collages. She also paints in watercolour and gouache to produce detailed designs using building features as the source.

A keen swimmer and member of the Arlington Baths Club, she is delighted and excited at being given the opportunity to exhibit her work at the club. She has created new bespoke collages illustrating some of the details of the magnificent Category A listed Victorian building along with a selection of small artworks inspired by the architectural facade and interior features. These will be displayed for the first time in the December exhibition as well as collages inspired by the work of Charles Rennie MacIntosh including Glasgow School of Art, Scotland Street School and Alexander Thomson’s Holmwood House with collaged details from Strathbungo tenements and townhouses.
