A Beautiful Day in The Neighbourhood, GFT
7 – 13 February, 2020
Lloyd Vogel is a cynical journalist commissioned to write a short profile of wholesome children’s TV presenter Fred Rogers. Convinced that there must be something dark lurking behind Fred’s kindly persona, Lloyd goes to interview him. But the encounter ends up revealing more about Lloyd’s own inner demons, as he is challenged by Fred’s thoughtful and benevolent outlook.
Based on real events, this poignant drama tackles big emotional issues with a similarly gentle approach as Fred Rogers’ children’s TV show – a show that made him a household name in America. A unique, moving drama directed by Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) and featuring stand-out performances from Matthew Rhys and Tom Hanks.
