Saturday, 21 January, 2023 at 7.30 p.m.
Òran Mór, The Venue, Top of Byres Road, Glasgow, G12 8QX
Exciting arrangements and heart-tugging vocal harmonies are The Poozies’ hallmarks, and they’re back onstage at Celtic Connections performing a fantastic collection of songs and tunes. Named after a den of iniquity frequented by Robert Burns, this “all-female band” has evolved since bursting onto the folk scene in 1991, and their line-up now embraces Michael Bryan alongside Mary MacMaster, Eilidh Shawand Sarah McFadyen. Mixing fiddles, guitars, banjo, electro harp and gorgeous vocals, The Poozies promise first-class entertainment.
“Original and exciting music using risky and intricate harmonies” Shetland News.
Fras
A crashing wave of Highland music is promised when FRAS take the stage. This thundering four-piece from Na Garbh Chrìochan blend old melodies and original tunes and are renowned for captivating audiences and tearing up dancefloors in their wake. Featuring box, flute, pipes and guitar, their debut album, Dìle (“downpour”), presents “a bracing shower of melodies, a downpour of thundering rhythm with the promise of occasional sunshine”.
