In Times of Self-Isolation poem by Rizwan Akhtar
In Times of self-Isolation
I have just discovered that there is a world outside
still a touch away from us we used to be so familiar
coming each morning the sun bloats carelessly
even shadows of all possible sizes remain alone
no one comes out to sue time for being too slow
and for being easily available without any hitch
but the end is soon judged even before it is over
stars are punctual and so is the newspaper hawker
we still have buildings, enough rooms to make love
where language still makes a lot of sense of silence
and without thrusting elbows and haunches we adjust
in verandahs where a couple of chairs do the trick
where birds land leaving us a company of feathers
in a flash they pick, fly, make us wonder about skies.
