Threebop plus Little Acres at The Blue Arrow

14 March, 2019
The Blue Arrow, 32 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow G2 3HW
Three of London’s vibrant young jazz voices come together to create their own take on vocal jazz harmony singing. Inspired by the music of bebop legends and the vocalese tradition, Ella Hohnen-Ford, Rosina Bullen and Luca Manning perform their own arrangements with tight vocal harmonies and improvisation. Each of these vocalists bring their own personality and distinct sound to the music, culminating in a refreshing and engaging performance. Their resident rhythm section features some of the most in demand young players on the scene. David Swan, Will Sach and Boz Martin-Jones provide an interactive and spontaneous energy to the Threebop sound.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
A night of music dedicated to the late Nancy Wilson featuring her iconic 1962 album “Nancy Wilson & Cannonball Adderley”
The Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderley album is one of the most successful vocal Jazz albums of all time. After the recent passing of Nancy Wilson and discovering that we are all absolutely in love with this record we felt it was right to explore this music even further. Therefore we have arranged this incredible music for three voices along with original vocalese lyrics on a few of the most famous solos from the album. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley are both renowned soloists in their own right and this album brings to light both musician’s exquisite talents showcasing Cannonballs’ effortlessly melodic soloing and Wilson’s honeyed vocal tones and unique interpretation of melodies and lyrics through her singing.
LITTLE ACRES
Little Acres is the passion project of Rachel Lightbody, Cariss Crosbie and Emilie Boyd, three Glasgow-based singers who have combined their voices and creative forces to bring original interpretations of an eclectic range of modern songs. Their arrangements blur the boundaries between R’n’B, soul, indie and folk, mixing these elements to explore the beauty and power of female vocal harmony. They are joined by Alan Sweeney on guitar.
