The Happy Prince, GFT
3 – 9 August, 2018
Rupert Everett’s directorial debut is a poignant dramatization of Oscar Wilde’s final years, and the ghosts that haunted him. In late 19th Century Paris, Wilde is out of prison but a pariah. He swings between grief and a determination to wrest whatever pleasure he can from the time he has left. His body ailing and heavy, his mind spinning, he survives by falling back on the flamboyant irony and brilliant wit that defined him. The Happy Prince is bolstered by a stellar supporting cast of British actors, including Colin Firth, Emily Watson and Colin Morgan.
