Glasgow Wildlife Garden Festival
9th – 30th September, 2014
Re-connect with the city’s urban green spaces
A city-wide Wildlife Garden Festival will offer people in Glasgow the chance to get closer to nature this summer, with a packed calendar of events running between September 9-30.
Storytelling, walks, a comedy night and canoe trips will all be on offer as part of the festival, which involves 20 community gardens, 10 schools and organisations from across the city.
The festival will kick off with a mass bike ride on September 9, and people will be able to get involved with wildlife surveys and other volunteering opportunities.
Six of the schools, which have been named ambassador schools for species like bumblebees, will hold a carnival at the Bandstand in Kelvingrove Park, and there will be events at Glasgow Botanic Gardens, the Tramway and The Stand Comedy Club.
There will also be activities at parks and gardens across the city, including Cranhill Park, North Kelvin Meadow, Woodlands Community Garden, Govanhill Baths and Shettleston Community Growing Project.
A leaflet will be available soon, and there are more details on the website: www.rspb.org.uk/thingstodo/glasgow.
The festival is part of Giving Nature a Home in Glasgow, an RSPB Scotland initiative in partnership with Glasgow Life and Glasgow City Council, which aims to re-connect people with Glasgow’s urban green spaces.
