An evening of inventive, witty and wonderfully off‑beat Polish short films, showcasing a wide range of comedic sensibilities — from dry observational humour to surreal, absurdist storytelling. This curated selection highlights the creative freedom and bold imagination that define Poland’s contemporary short‑form cinema. Many of the filmmakers featured here have since expanded their early ideas into fully fledged feature‑length careers, and their shorts have been recognised at major festivals in Poland and abroad.

The programme includes Exam (dir. Jan Naszewski), a sharply observed portrait of a couple invited to participate in their therapist’s professional exam, where mistranslations, expectations and buried frustrations quietly escalate; Shivering Trunks (dir. Natalia Brożyńska), blending handmade animation with playful narration to explore loneliness, self‑image and gentle absurdity; Dancing in the Corner (dir. Jan Bujnowski), a visually inventive meditation on early‑1990s Poland and one of the most awarded Polish shorts of recent years; Frozen Stories (dir. Grzegorz Jaroszuk), a deadpan tale of two supermarket workers tasked with transforming their lives in forty‑eight hours; and Hangover (dir. Maciej Buchwald), a comedic study of a rehabilitation worker whose unexpected infatuation disrupts his routine and worldview.

The evening will open with a pre‑recorded introduction by Piotr Czerkawski, curator and one of Poland’s leading voices in contemporary film criticism, offering a brief context for the evolving landscape of Polish short cinema.
