Zero Waste Scotland – National Re-Use Free Collection Service

The national re-use phone line supports community based re-use organisations across Scotland to provide the public with a high level of customer service when donating for re-use.

Funded by Zero Wate Scotland, the national re-use phone line accepts a  range of bulky reusable items include: furniture in good condition, soft furnishings such as sofas, mattresses and armchairs (fire regulation labels must be attached) , electrical items such as washing machines, fridges and cookers in good working order.

There are many benefits:

Free collection service for re-usable items

Helps support  third sector and charitable organisations regarding job creation and volunteering opportunities

Reduces waste sent to landfill – in 2013 over  4,000 items in Scotland were diverted = over 400 tonnes

Examples of items that re-use organisations will accept:

Sofas and armchairs (fire regulation tags must be attached)
Beds and Mattresses (fire regulations must be attached)
Wardrobes and chest of drawers
Dining furniture
Fridges, freezers , electric cookers, washing machines and tumble dryers
Bicycles

Examples of items that re-use organisations will not accept:

    Items which are soiled, ripped or damaged in any way
    Gas appliances of any kind
    Bulky style televisions
    Large wall units
    Items that have been left outside

Charity shops and other furniture re-use organisations within Glasgow also accept household goods for re-use.  Including the Salvation Army and Barnados.
