Have you always felt that you had a story within you that you would love to write?

Writing short stories like Agnes Owens with Kirstin Innes

Join award-winning novelist Kirstin Innes (Scabby Queen) for a series of creative writing workshops inspired by Alexandria’s own Agnes Owens as we celebrate her cenetary in 2026. Over the course of three weekly sessions looking at setting, character and style, participants will work up to creating their own short story, a form Owens was particularly proficient in.

Kirstin Innes is one of the authors chosen to write new introductions to Owens’ work, which is all being republished in her centenary year: she will bring an understanding of exactly how Owens built up tension in her short fiction, and each workshop will look closely at techniques that Owens used and offer suggestions for how budding writers can use them in their own work.
