Curated by Women of Colour Scotland in partnership with Glasgow Film Theatre, this special screening as part of WCFF 2025 showcases four powerful short films that explore identity, resilience, memory and heritage through the eyes of Caribbean women.

The programme includes:

Sugar Dumplin (Tristan Barrocks, 19m) – A moving story of food, memory and a young woman’s relationship with her father living with dementia.

Reimagining Nanny of the Maroons (Leo R. Douglas, 32m) – A powerful documentary honouring Jamaica’s legendary freedom fighter, exploring her legacy through African spiritual traditions that revere nature and West African cultures where women lead.

XE’IL: Threads of Culture, Tradition and Community (Denise Speck, 5m)– A reflective piece on heritage, craft and the importance of passing down generational knowledge. Through their craft, these women not only preserve their cultural heritage but also forge a vibrant community.

The Roads We Travel (Mary Cecilia Walker, 17m)– A young woman’s journey to decide which path to follow: the one that leads her home or the one that takes her closer to her dreams. One night’s adventure shows her they may not be as different as she thinks.

The screening will be followed by a community conversation.
Presented as part of the Windrush Caribbean Film Festival 2025, bringing Windrush narratives to audiences across the UK.
