The Wizard of the Kremlin at GFT
17 – 23 April, 2026
The Chechen wars, the sinking of the Kursk submarine, cyberwarfare, and interference in foreign politics, unfold in both Putin’s Russia and Olivier Assayas’ tense dramatistation of the rise of Vladimir Putin. Paul Dano plays Vadim Baranov, the political activist-turned-reality TV producer-turned-close political advisor to Putin, recounting his chilling story to an American journalist (Jeffrey Wright). Olivier Assayas has assembled his most star-studded cast to date to showcase this twisted tale, with Jude Law’s brutal yet intimate performance of Putin a must-see, and Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander as Baranov’s elusive lover Ksenia, who may be the one thing Baranov can’t manipulate.
