Arguably the greatest superhero film ever made, and Disney/Pixar’s first foray into the genre before purchasing Marvel Studios, Brad Bird’s The Incredibles plays with genre tropes and familiar comic plotlines in a joyous, visually luscious and hilarious animated adventure. The Parr’s (AKA Mr Incredible and Elasti-girl) are living ordinary lives after the superhero community is forced to unmask. But Bob just can’t give up the lifestyle, putting himself, his city and his super family in mortal danger – and provoking them out of the shadows at last. A vital entry in the Pixar golden-era, The Incredibles is ripe for revisiting in the wake of a successful graphic novel series and the announcement of a sequel in the works.
