Sofia, GFT
29 October, 2019, 6 p.m.
Whilst at a family lunch, Sofia’s waters break. In denial about her pregnancy, her cousin takes her to hospital where she gives birth. Sofia is an unmarried teenager, and it is illegal in Morocco for her to be a single mum, so she must name the man responsible and marry him. So begins a tumultuous journey to find the father of her baby. Set in the bustling metropolis of Casablanca, this surprising film interrogates issues of class, patriarchy and the lengths people will go to for security. Sofia was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes 2018 and won the award for Best Screenplay.
