"One world"

'The world's concerns & problems are ours to both share and solve together'

The Muslim Information Service (Scotland)

We are a Scottish organisation which aims to allay misconceptions of Islam and promote a greater sense of understanding and tolerance of the Muslim way of life, and are an affiliate of the Muslim Council of Britain and Scottish Interfaith Council.

We are organising this year's 'Islam Awareness Week' (IAW) in Glasgow from Mon 20th -Sun 26th November 2006. Last years theme was 'Past & Present: 1000 years of Islam and Britain' which highlighted the valuable contributions played by Muslims to our society.

IAW is a UK-wide initiative running for the past 13 years with previous highlights including:

  • Scotland 2004-5: Mosque tours & exhibition for the general public attracting hundreds of Scots
  • Production of a national booklet on 1000 years of Islam & Britain. This was a comprehensive resource which identified key historical facts proving the presence of Muslims in Britain is not a recent phenomenon.

IAW Theme 2006: 'One World'

We all live in one world. We share our humanity, and yet we are not the same ? we share our differences too. At times our differences appear to clash, and some talk of a great clash, a Clash of Civilisations. Such talk, the talk of mongers, chooses to overlook the many values that bring us together. Truth, justice and equality?freedom, dignity and respect.

The Clash is a myth. Our one world is not ? 'One World. One Week!'

We are inviting organisations, businesses and service providers to participate in this years
'Islam Awareness Week'.
