Scottish Women’s Convention – STEMinism

The Scottish Women’s Convention are holding a hybrid conference to explore what needs to change to keep women in STEM.
In 2022, 2,891,788 people were employed within STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers, with this expected to increase by 2.9% by 2026 . This growth is expected to continue beyond this, as new working styles and technologies drive forward significant change in the way employment is organised. Regardless of major advancements in STEM fields, women are regularly missing within these workforces, particularly at management levels.
At the SWC, they want to understand why women are not staying within STEM sectors, despite increasing numbers entering university to study STEM courses: 35% of STEM students in higher education in the UK are women, however only 24% of those in STEM employment are women. Therefore, they are holding a conference which focuses on what needs to change to keep women with STEM sectors, so women are not left behind by the inevitable technological advancements of the coming decades.
In Person Attendees – Come along to the Glasgow Grosvenor Hotel at 11:30am to 3:30pm on the 11th of November 2023, to hear from a range of speakers who can provide their first-hand experience of working within STEM, as well as what solutions are available to keep women in these industries. After you have heard from the speakers there will be a Q&A, followed by a free lunch and then roundtables, where you can share your lived experience.
Virtual Attendees – Join online from 11.30am to 1.30pm on the 11th of November 2023, to hear from a range of speakers who can provide their first-hand experience of working within STEM, as well as what solutions are available to keep women in these industries. After you have heard from the speakers there will be a Q&A where you will have the opportunity to ask any relevant questions via zoom.

Dr Holly Ferguson – Research Fellow, Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC & Digital Dairy Chain).
Angela Prenter-Smith – Managing Director and founder of This is Milk.
SWC aim to provide a safe, confident, and comfortable space to allow these experiences to be shared. These events are, therefore, only open to women to attend.
The venue is easily accessible for visitors with mobility difficulties and accessibility needs. Please use the Grosvenor Lane entrance for accessibility needs.
