Noirvember: Devil In A Blue Dress
Sunday 13 November, 2022 at 5 p.m.
Glasgow Film Theatre, 12 Rose Street, Glasgow G3 6RB
This screening will be introduced by Paul Gallagher, Programme Manager at Glasgow Film.
It’s 1948, and Los Angeles is booming, but Easy Rawlins has just been fired and he’s got house payments to make. When he’s offered a job locating the mysterious Daphne Monet, he takes it but soon finds himself drawn into a web of murder, blackmail, brutal cops and city politics.
Largely overlooked on its release, Devil in a Blue Dress was intended as the first of a series of Rawlins movies from director Carl Franklin and star Denzel Washington. They only ever got to make one, but it is well worth revisiting – or discovering – and stands apart as a complex, thrilling addition to the noir genre.
