They will have the immense privilege of launching a writing school in memory of former chair, Ruby McCann during Book Week Scotland 22 with inaugural tutor Rodge Glass.

Rodge Glass is the Convener of MLitt Creative Writing at Stratclyde University and of the Int. Alasdair Gray Conference.
He is the author of the novels No Fireworks (Faber, 2005), Hope for Newborns (Faber, 2008) and Bring Me the Head of Ryan Giggs (Serpent’s Tail, 2012) as well as a graphic novel, Dougie’s War (Freight, 2010, written with Dave Turbitt), LoveSexTravelMusik: Stories for the EasyJet Generation (Freight, 2013) and Alasdair Gray: A Secretary’s Biography (Bloomsbury, 2008) His work has been nominated for numerous awards, both national and international, including the Authors’ Club Award, the Dylan Thomas Prize, the Frank O’Connor Award and the Saltire Award, and he won a Somerset Maugham Award for Non-Fiction in 2009. Rodge has also written for The Guardian, The Paris Review, The Herald, The Scotsman and others. His various fictions have been translated into Albanian, Danish, German, Hebrew, Spanish and Slovenian, and he has appeared at international literary festivals around the world, including New York, Toronto and Rome. His novel Voglio la Testa di Ryan Giggs was published in Italian (66thand2nd, Roma) in 2014, and the short story collection Price za Izidzet generaciju was published in Serbian (Rasic Literary Workshop, Belgrade) in 2016. He is currently writing his next novel, Once a Great Leader, and a nonfiction book called Things Have Changed: Essays on Doubt.

“Book Week Scotland is an annual celebration of books and reading that takes place across the country. Now in its eleventh year, during Book Week people of all ages and walks of life come together to share the joy of reading. Together with Scottish Book Trust’s curated programme, their partners deliver hundreds of unique, exciting events and activities that celebrate the transformative power of reading. They are joined in this celebration by Scotland’s authors, poets, playwrights, storytellers and illustrators to bring a packed programme of events and projects to life.
