New Scottish Stories – Glasgow Short Film Festival 2022
Tuesday 6 December, 2022
Glasgow Film Theatre, 12 Rose Street, Glasgow G3 6RB
New Scottish Stories Plus Q & A
To mark Scotland’s Year of Stories, we’ll be screening a specially selected programme of new award-winning Scottish shorts from Glasgow Short Film Festival that tell diverse stories in fiction, documentary and animation.
From the surprisingly international setting of a Macduff boarding house, to the claustrophobia of a dysfunctional family home, via a bathroom, a beauty salon and a Skype conversation between estranged cousins, these five films collectively present a vision of Scotland and Scottish identity that reaches way beyond its traditional cultural and geographical boundaries.
Included in the programme is Sean Lìonadh’s recent Bafta Scotland-winning short Too Rough. It’ll be featured alongside fellow nominees The Bayview, directed by Daniel Cook, and Groom directed by Leyla Coll-O’Reilly.
Eilidh Nicoll’s animation on the anxieties of ageing and winner of this year’s Young Scottish Filmmaker Prize at Glasgow Short film Festival, Silvering will also be shown, as well as Laura Wadha’s exploration of a family separated by war, Born in Damascus.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with directors Daniel Cook (The Bayview), Leyla Coll-O’Reilly (Groom) and Sean Lìonadh (Too Rough). The Q&A will be live captioned.
