Monuments for the Present is an open-ended project that invites dialogue around equalities and public space. Public monuments in the UK have been the focus of debate and action that have questioned dominant narratives of national identity that glorify violent imperialist extraction and white supremacy. Complex power struggles around these contested sites have made room for new forms of representation. ‘Monuments for the Present’ relates temporal experience to social and structural inequalities and explores potentialities for different value systems to be represented in public space.
Exhibitions at multiple sites in Glasgow were co-created by participants from Maryhill Integration Network’s Museum of Things Art Group with the Monuments for Equality creative initiative.
The exhibitions are open to the public, registration is not required.
