Meeting Gorbachev GFT
8 – 14 November, 2019
Mikhail Gorbachev is synonymous with the era of perestroika, glasnost and the hope that democracy might take hold in Russia. Gorbachev, now 87, is interviewed by Werner Herzog who questions him on the Cold War, his feelings about the Putin regime and his place in history. Illustrated by rare archive footage and propelled by the care and compassion of Herzog’s questions, this touching portrait captures the human side of a world leader as he recalls his relationships with Reagan and Thatcher, his beloved wife Raisa and his dashed dream of lasting change.
