Mary Queen of Scots
18 – 31 January, 2019
Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary Stuart returns to her native Scotland in 1561 to reclaim her rightful throne. But the English Queen Elizabeth I resists and fears Mary’s authority. National Theatre director Josie Rourke makes a confident move to film with this brilliantly-acted portrayal of the two most powerful women in Elizabethan Britain, and the admiration, envy and conflict between them. Featuring a layered script by ace political dramatist Beau Willimon (House of Cards, The Ides of March), and commanding performances from Saoirse Ronan as Mary Stuart and Margot Robbie as Queen Elizabeth I, this is a rich and substantial historical drama.
