The Blue Arrow, 323 Sauchiehall St, Glasgow G2 3HW
Lolita Jackson, a Manhattan-based vocalist, has been a musician since childhood. Originally a classically trained bass clarinetist and tenor saxophone player starting in elementary school, she permanently switched to vocals during her time at the University of Pennsylvania as a member of one of the premier collegiate a capella jazz ensembles in America, Counterparts. In addition, Lolita was also a member of gospel and rock groups during this time and developed her signature style of incorporating vocalese and scatting as part of the instrumental ensemble.
Since that time, Lolita has spent over 25 years performing jazz, gospel, R&B, pop and jazzfunk in Berlin, Tokyo, Sydney, Shanghai, New Orleans, London, including famed Tipitnia’s and Club JZ. She has performed in Carnegie Hall several times, and brought shows to The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016 and 2017. This is Lolita’s second stint at The Blue Arrow, as she debuted there in March 2018. Her musical influences include The Manhattan Transfer, Ella Fitzgerald, Incognito and Stevie Wonder and the musical styles of those artists weave a rich tapestry in her set.
