I Swear at GFT
10 – 23 October, 2025
Shot in Scotland, I Swear is the powerful true-life story of Tourette’s Syndrome campaigner John Davidson MBE – brilliantly portrayed by Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power actor, Robert Aramayo.
Performances tagged ‘Relaxed Screening’ will be less formal, with audience members allowed to make noises and leave their seats when needed. The sound is slightly lower than a standard screening. Designed for autistic, neurodivergent and learning disabled cinema-goers, everyone is welcome to attend.
Also starring Peter Mullan, Maxine Peake and Shirley Henderson, this funny, moving and life affirming biopic follows John’s life from adolescence to adulthood. Diagnosed with Tourette’s at 15 – a condition few in 1980s Scotland had ever witnessed – John’s classmates labelled him ‘insane’. As an adult, he found his life’s purpose campaigning for better understanding and acceptance of the condition.
“A life-affirming story filled with humour and grace, I Swear is a tribute to a man whose resilience helped rewrite the narrative around Tourette’s by embracing its truths and showing the world how to think differently.” – Jason Ryle, Toronto International Film Festival
